Why Ted Bundy?
Ted Bundy is often considered one of the most interesting and compelling criminals of all time, and at the same time Bundy often has not been viewed in the same light as other killers, during his lifetime as well as hereafter into the present day. With the modern portrayal of Bundy in the recent movie Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile falling to Zac Efron, the idea that Bundy was such a charming and interesting person was further perpetuated. Through looking at the new movie, the Netflix documentary Conversations With a Killer, and the podcast Serial Killers episodes on Bundy entitled The Campus Killer, this page is going to explore what made Ted Bundy the way he was, and how his psychopathic and narcissistic traits indeed helped him prolong his capture and eventual execution. The page will also aim to view why Ted Bundy in today’s light of being most likely the most well known killer in American history, still has such a large base of people that find him charming and incredibly interesting to study. Some of the main reasons that will be explored will be his race playing a factor, as well as his look of a typical good American man, with the correct haircut, nice suits, and a background outside of his criminal activities that looked good, and how these details helped him get significantly better treatment than most, despite the charges that were being brought against him.

Conversations With A Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes is a Netflix Original that showcases recordings of Ted Bundy after he was arrested while he was on death row. The documentarians take the audience through these tapes that detail out Bundy’s crimes from his own perspective

Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile is a drama based on a true story and has been heavily scrutinized by the media. Zac Efron is cast to play Ted Bundy in this thrilling depiction of his crimes. While largely centered around his “normal” life outside of murder, this dramatization still provides unique insight into Ted Bundy’s life of crime.

For our final piece of media, we will be listening to two episodes from the popular podcast Serial Killers. In these two episodes titled “Campus Killer” the hosts take a more psychological approach to dissect Ted Bundy and who he was. From his tortured upbringing to his murderous adulthood, they use psychology to attempt to make sense of how a man could commit these unspeakable acts.
